サムスン新型スマホ「Galaxy Note 7」：機内持ち込み全面禁止 (BBC-Business, October 14, 2016)
アメリカ合衆国運輸省 (The US Department of Transportation) は､10月15日 (土) 6:00以降の飛行機の利用者に対し、Samsungの「Galaxy Note 7」を、機内持ち込みはもちろんのこと、預け入れ荷物 (luggage) の中に入れることも禁止すると発表した。
運輸省長官 Mr Antony Foxx は声明文で
"We recognise that banning these phones from airlines will inconvenience some passengers, but the safety of all those abroad an aircraft must take priority."
[ 米国の全飛行路線で、この型のスマホを禁止することは、一部の人に不便を掛けることになると認識はしているが、飛行機を利用する搭乗者全員の安全は優先されなければならない。]
"Samsung recalled around 2.5million phones in September after complains of exploding batteries."
"While it later insisted that all replaced devices were safe, there were reports that those phones were catching fire too."
[ サムスンは、バッテリｲ爆発事故の苦情を受けて、この9月に、およそ250万台の新型スマホをリコールした。]
[ その後、交換したギャラクシｲ・ノート7については安全だとサムスン側が主張したが、交換した機種からも爆発事故が相次いだ。]
ついに、Samsungは、今後、永久に Galaxy Note 7 を生産しないことにしたと発表。
「The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (米国消費者製品安全委員会)」委員長の Mr Elliot Kaye は、新型スマホの所有者に次のように呼びかける。
"I would like to remind consumers once again to take advantage of the remedies offered, including a full refund. It's the right thing to do and the safest thing to do."
[ サムスンの新型スマホの利用者に今一度、全面払い戻しを含め、利用者にとっては有利な、製造会社が提示した措置案を考えてもらいたい。そうすることが（あなたにとって）適切かつ最も安全は対策だ。]
なお、日本の国土交通省も、国内航空会社に対し、今月 17日までに「Galaxy Note 7」の機内持ち込みを禁止するようにと、指示を出した。
