"When a golfer takes a swing at the ball, the two hips rotate in different directions and different speeds."
イギリス「Warwick (ウォーリック)大学」Damian Griffin 教授らが「British Journal of Sports Medicine (英スポーツ医学誌)」に発表した論文が、注目を浴びている。
Griffin 教授らはエリートゴルファー 55人に MRI 検査を実施し、その股関節を調べた。
検査結果に、研究者も驚く。
"The egg shape seen on some of the scans was visible in 16% of right hips - the rear hip during a swing in a right-handed player - and 4% of left hips - the front hips during the swing in a right-handed player - in the professional golfers."
[ 右利きのゴルファーは、スイングする際に右足を後方に引くが、MRI 検査画像で、その右足の大腿骨頭がタマゴ型に変形していたプロゴルファーは16％、同じく右利きのゴルファーで、スイングのときに、前に踏み出す左足の大腿骨頭に変形が認められたゴルファーは 4％であった。]
"What remains to be established is whether professional golfers develop these shapes because of the way they are using their hips or whether players with these hip shapes are more likely to become professional."
[ プロゴルファーが常に股関節をスイング回転させることが原因で、その大腿骨頭がタマゴ型に変形したのか、それとも、偶然にも、タマゴ型に変形した大腿骨頭の持ち主が､プロゴルファーに向いていたのかは、今後、実証すべき課題として残るという。]
しかし、大腿骨の球形状の頭がタマゴ型に変形しては、腰をひねると、「カムの回転運動 (cam rotation)」になってしまう。これでは、ゴルファーが腰の痛みを訴えるのも無理がない。
いくら、ゴルフをやると長生き (longevity) につながるとか、心身の健康 (physical and mental health) に良いからと言って、何事も度を過ぎると、本末転倒になる。
